DIRECTOR, VIRGINIA TECH RICHMOND
CENTER & VIRGINIA TECH HAMPTON ROADS CENTERS
The Director serves as the lead
Outreach and International Affairs (OIA) representative in the Richmond and
Hampton Roads regions. In fulfilling academic and administrative responsibilities,
the director is charged with pursuing priorities that reflect all three
missions of the university: teaching, research, and outreach. The Director will
continue the process of building an organizational culture and service ethos
while promoting a culture of innovative programming, systematic improvement,
and accountability. S/he must have the presence and diplomatic acumen to
navigate the highest circles of regional government, industry, and the academy.
The Director will lead the centers' efforts to build cooperative relationships
and create partnerships between community leaders and colleagues across the
spectrum of Virginia Tech's faculty and staff, to catalyze, facilitate, and
support initiatives throughout the Richmond and Hampton Roads regions. The
Director is expected to actively engage in community-based organizations across
the regions, contribute productively to regional economic growth and
development initiatives, and enhance the financial viability and capability of
the Virginia Tech Richmond and Hampton Roads Centers. S/he is responsible for
developing and delivering courses, seminars, workshops, certificate programs,
donor sponsored technical assistance programs, association meetings and
conferences, and other contract-specific credit and non-credit programs. These
initiatives will be geared towards the regions' industry, government, and
educational institutions in the emergent destination areas and strategic growth
areas (http://provost.vt.edu/destination-areas.html) of the university. The Director will also oversee the
expansion of innovative graduate programs and ongoing operations related to the
delivery of all graduate degree programs (e.g., Business Administration,
Educational Leadership and Policy Studies & Public Administration).
The Director is expected to possess
a thorough understanding of resource allocation and align resources with
strategic goals of the centers. The Director will be responsible for generating
program revenues and meeting annual revenue targets through the development of
a robust, diverse program portfolio that meets the needs of both regions.
Virginia Tech seeks a seasoned, dynamic leader who is able to capitalize on the
remarkable possibilities ahead for the regions in the following sectors:
manufacturing, energy, healthcare, government, and finance. The Director will
report to the associate vice president for engagement and will be an integral
member of the outreach and international affairs leadership team.
